MOTICIAN
Duties and Responsibilities:
(i) Receive, identify, and record bodies brought into the mortuary.
(ii) Preserve bodies through embalming, refrigeration, or other approved
methods.
(iii)Prepare bodies for postmortem examination or burial, including washing,
dressing, and restoration.
(iv)Assist pathologists during postmortem examinations.
(v) Maintain proper mortuary records, including admission, release, and
disposal of bodies.
(vi)Ensure cleanliness, hygiene, and orderliness of the mortuary and its
equipment.
(vii) Manage the storage and retrieval of bodies in accordance with
established procedures.
(viii) Counsel and guide bereaved families with compassion and
professionalism.
(ix) Ensure adherence to infection prevention and control measures.
(x) Dispose of unclaimed bodies in line with public health regulations.
(xi)Supervise and train mortuary attendants and support staff.
(xii) Maintain inventory of mortuary supplies and report any shortages or
faults.

Requirements for Appointment:
(i) Diploma in Mortuary Science, Mortuary Technology, or an equivalent
qualification from a recognized institution.
(ii) Certificate in Embalming and Postmortem Procedures from a recognized
institution.
(iii)Registration or eligibility for registration with a relevant professional body
(if applicable).
(iv) Proficiency in infection prevention and control practices.
(v) At least two (2) years of relevant work experience in a recognized
mortuary or health facility will be an added advantage.
(vi) Proficiency in computer applications.
(vii) Meets the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of
Kenya
