THEATRE NURSE
Duties and Responsibilities:
(i) Prepare and maintain a sterile operating environment in accordance with
infection prevention and control standards.
(ii) Prepare patients for surgery by conducting preoperative assessments and
ensuring informed consent.
(iii)Assist surgeons and anesthetists during surgical procedures by handling
instruments, sponges, and sutures.
(iv)Monitor patients’ vital signs and condition during operations.
(v) Maintain accurate documentation of surgical procedures, instruments,
and patient information.
(vi)Count and account for all surgical instruments, swabs, and needles
before, during, and after surgery.
(vii) Provide postoperative care, including monitoring patients in the
recovery area and ensuring safe transfer.
(viii) Ensure availability and proper functioning of surgical equipment
and supplies.
(ix) Participate in emergency theatre operations and on-call duties as
required.
(x) Adhere to hospital policies, ethical standards, and safety procedures.

Requirements for Appointment
(i) Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
(ii) Higher Diploma in Perioperative / Theatre Nursing from a recognized
training institution.
(iii)Registration and valid practicing license from the Nursing Council of
Kenya (NCK).
(iv) Certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS)
will be an added advantage.
(v) At least two (2) years of relevant experience in a busy theatre setup will
be an added advantage.
(vi) Meets the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya
