CRITICAL CARE NURSE
Duties and Responsibilities:
(i) To provide specialized nursing care to critically ill patients in the
Intensive Care Unit (ICU), High Dependency Unit (HDU), or Emergency
Department.
(ii) Ensuring optimal recovery of patients through continuous monitoring
and intervention.
(iii)Provide direct and continuous nursing care to critically ill patients.
(iv)Monitor patients’ vital signs and assess their condition using specialized
equipment.
(v) Administer prescribed medications, fluids, and treatments.
(vi)Operate and maintain critical care equipment such as ventilators,
defibrillators, and monitors.
(vii) Assist physicians during medical procedures and emergencies.
(viii) Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.
(ix) Ensure infection prevention and control practices are strictly observed.
(x) Educate patients’ families on care procedures and emotional support.
(xi) Participate in emergency response and resuscitation procedures.
(xii) Supervise and mentor junior nursing staff and students.
Requirements for Appointment:
(i) Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
(ii) Higher Diploma in Critical Care Nursing from a recognized training
institution.
(iii)Registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
(iv)Valid practicing license.
(v) Certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life
Support (ACLS) is an added advantage.
(vi)Meets the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya
