The Director and Founder of SOBHAG INSURANCE BROKERS LTD., Mr. Sobhag D. Shah, reluctantly commenced doing insurance business in the year 1968, only to recover Sh. 3,000.00 that his father had paid to an insurance agent in the same year. His father had purchased the agency of New Great Insurance Co. of India and his initial target was the recovery of the amount paid to the agent as insurance was the last thing Mr. Sobhag Shah was interested in. However, as he was recovering the amount gradually, since the premium and commissions in that era were minimal, he realised that he was making money without much effort, and his interest in insurance business started growing. The following year he purchased the agency of Indian Trade & General Insurance Co. Ltd from another agent along with the large office space he was working in.
