Senior Medical Specialist – Anaesthesiologist, Job Group “R” – One

Requirements for appointment
i. Be a citizen of Kenya;
ii. Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.Ch.B) degree from a
university recognized by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists
Council;
iii. Be a holder of a Master of Medicine Degree in Anesthesia from a
university recognized by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists
Council;
iv. Must have served as Medical Specialist II for a minimum period of three
(3) years;
v. Registration by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council;
vi. Must have a valid practicing license from Medical Practitioners and
Dentists Council.

Duties and responsibilities
The Anaesthesiologist will be responsible to the employer and the supervisor
for the following;
i. Providing anaesthesia with full range of anaesthetic agents, methods and
techniques
ii. Administering pain relief before, during and after medical procedures
when necessary ;
iii. Monitoring patients’ vital signs during procedures when need be;
iv. Supervising Anesthesia Assistants and Certified Registered Nurse
Anesthetists;
v. Approving general, sedative, regional or local anesthetics;
vi. Reviewing medical files and laboratory results for patients;
vii. Informing patients of risks associated with anesthesia;
viii. Complying with medical and hospital policies and
ix. Any other duty that may be assigned by the supervisor.

Integrity Clearance
Successful applicants are expected to get clearance from the following bodies.
i. Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)
ii. Credit Reference Bureau (CRB)
iii. Higher Education Loans Board (HELB)
iv. Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)
v. Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI)
vi. For those with higher education certificates (degrees) from outside Kenya, a
letter of recognition of qualifications from the Commission of University
Education.
